Last night I presented at the ENVI (Museums Australia Education Network Victoria) end of year event Travellers Tales. I spoke about my travels earlier this year and from this experience suggested what makes a good museum: LOVE.
I showed examples from a wide range of museums and sites I visited where love was evident. This didn’t mean, necessarily, that they had a huge budget. What was more important was: that the exhibits suited the content or story being told (which might mean the site was left to speak for itself), that the visitors’ interests and personal ideas of engagement and interaction were respected and encouraged, and that the staff were passionate about their museum and the visitors they serve.
